Lot Essay

Identical boxes with the same wavy edges and showing similar decorative motifs and technique are known in the Detroit Institute of Art and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This later illustrated in East Asian Lacquer - The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 1991, pp. 344-345, pl.163.
