Lot Essay

"Shortly after publishing Victory over Death, Hirst decided to re-edition the skulls and diamond skull in one combined series with the butterflies [Momento.] For the latter he worked on a completely new set of colours. This was published by Paragon in a portfolio box designed by the artist, with typography by Yuki Shima at Science Ltd. The title continues the theme of mortality, memory and contemplation." (Charles Booth-Clibborn, Contemporary Art in Print: The publications of Charles Booth-Clibborn and his imprint The Paragon Press, 2006-2010, p. 324)
