AYRTON SENNA.
JPS Lotus 1985 - The original race-suit overalls worn by the driver during the British Grand Prix; special 4-layer nomex by stand 21, in black livery with yellow bands to sleeves and chest, with sponsors logos for Nacional, Olympus, JPS, Elf, Renault, GoodYear and Champion. It is understood to be the only 4-layer suit commissioned for Senna by JPS Lotus, and is accompanied by an historical dossier compiled by the vendor, as to its origins and connection with the vendor.
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone was won by Alain Prost, with Ayrton unable to finish. However he had produced a stirring drive, starting from 4th on the grid, he led for much of the race, to be sidelined by a mechanical problem in the later stages; but a race he should have won. He found this suit too restrictive, even removing the shoulder straps to ease mobility, and did not use it again thereafter, donating the overalls to his friend and former mechanic, during his Formula Ford 2000 Championship-winning year of 1982, Jonathan "Spider" Horswell. Letters of provenance and photo history accompanies this property. The vendor having close connections with the driver, both as mechanic and co-founder of the U.K.-based Ayrton Senna Fan Club.
