Figures on the Beach at Barmouth, North Wales

Varley set off on his first Welsh tour in the company of George Arnold the landscape painter, in 1798. He returned to Barmouth on a number of occasions and drew on the subject matter thoughout his career.
A similar watercolour by Varley of Fisherfolk at low tide, Barmouth, was sold at Christie's London, 8 July 1997, lot 37 (£3,910).
