Harry Sutton Palmer travelled extensively to find new subjects for his watercolours of the English landscape. Although he painted mainly in Surrey, several views of Scotland and the Lake District survive, reproduced in books such as Rivers and Streams of England, Bonnie Scotland, and The Heart of Scotland. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1870 onwards and also at the Royal Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society. He also held numerous one-man shows throughout England and one in New York.
