A GEORGE II MAHOGANY DRESSING-TABLE
Attributed to Wright and Elwick
The moulded rectangular top above a green baize-lined slide with re-entrant angles, above two frieze-drawers and a central arched kneehole, flanked on each side by a deep drawer with a mahogany backboard, on square legs with pierced serpentine angle brackets, brass and leather castors, previously but probably not originally with fixed mirror back, four angle-brackets replaced

Lot Essay

The slide in the frieze of this dressing-table has the very rare detail of front re-entrant corners.
There were a number of this type of dressing-table at Wentworth Woodhouse, all with more or less elaborate handles. The attribution to Wright and Elwick is based on the size of the group, the flying angle-brackets and constructional characteristics.
