Lot Essay

Marie Laurencin painted the present work upon her departure from Spain, where she had spent the war years with her husband Baron Otto von Wätjen. The guitar player motif in La femme à l’oiseau speaks to the lyrical influences of Spain on the artist's imagery at the time.
