Icons of Cricket

Online | 27 October – 16 November

This autumn, Christie’s presents two online sales dedicated to the art of cricket.

The Sir Geoffrey Boycott Collection is one of the last great collections of cricketing memorabilia left in private hands. Chronicling the career of the Yorkshire and England legend, the sale begins with a scorebook noting a young ‘J Boycott’ scoring ‘9 not out’ for Ackworth Cricket Club and builds to a crescendo at lot 100, the bat used by Sir Geoffrey to score his 100th century. This group of objects traces the history of one of international cricket’s most famous periods from the mid-1960s through to the 1980s and forms a unique mix of items from English cricket’s historic matches and others belonging to global cricketing stars.

Running concurrently, Christie’s Twenty20 Charity Cricket Auction is a once-in-a-generation sale celebrating the accomplishments of some of the greatest cricketers in history, with the aim of raising money for charities including the Foundation of Goodness, Shahid Afridi Foundation, Jacques Kallis Scholarship Trust and many others. Traversing the cricketing world, the sale includes items from iconic moments in the history of the sport: from the ball with which Muttiah Muralitharan took his world record 503rd ODI wicket to the shirt from Shahid Afridi’s final international match.
