A Meissen chinoiserie two-handled ecuelle and domed cover
Circa 1725, blue enamel crossed swords mark, gilder's 9. to both pieces
With fine ear-shaped handles enriched in gilding, painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt with Orientals on terraces with utensils and flowering plants, one side with an Oriental taking tea, an attendant with a staff and a cactus in a jar on a pedestal, the other with an Oriental stooping over a brazier, within shaped quatrefoil cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels and gilt and iron-red scrolls and purple tasselled drapery, the domed cover with a gilt ball finial and three vignettes of Orientals on terraces, one with a figure worshipping a diety, within concentric iron-red lines and a band of interlocking gilt scrolls and flowerheads, gilt band rims (two small shallow rim chips to écuelle and slight footrim chip, slight chip to rim of cover)
