A yewwood and elm Windsor chair, Thames Valley, mid 18th century
with a shaped toprail between rectangular section uprights and a solid vase shaped splat, the arms with flattened shaped supports and with a broad saddle seat on front cabriole legs and later tapered back legs joined by later turned stretchers

This distinctive chair relates to two highly provenanced chairs with their maker's labels that are illustrated in Dr B Cotton The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1990, page 45, figures tv14 and tv15; respectively John Pitt of Slough (died 1759) and Richard Hewett of Slough (died 1777)
