Lot Essay

The present work is one of the twenty-eight illustrations that Yeats provided for a book entitled Pastimes of the Londoners, circa 1900. The book was never published however, and instead he used several of the drawings, including the present work, in A Broadside, his monthly series which was published in April 1911.
