Lot Essay

Early Morning was conceived for publication in a weekly periodical, Picadilly: Town and Country Life. Shortly after hundreds of the lithotints were printed, the magazine failed financially and the majority of the prints were destroyed. The legend with text, "Supplement to Picadilly, July 18th, 1878" was trimmed from fifty impressions that were saved, one of which is offered for sale here.
