2 volumes in one, 4° (202 x 162mm). Hebrew, roman and italic types. Engraved frontispiece and 17 cabalistic plates, all but one folding, vol. II title printed in red and black. (Minor repairs at edge of first frontispiece, a few minor marginal repairs, occasional spotting and browning, small wormhole in last 3 leaves with a little loss, possibly missing a folding plate in vol. II.) Contemporary vellum, spine lettered in ink. Provenance: Johann Jacob Bentius (18th-century engraved armorial bookplate) -- Johann Paul Ägidius Nitsch of Schönburg (18th-century bookplate at end) -- Petermann (early signature) -- 18th-century notes on front flyleaves.
FIRST EDITION of a seminal work on the kabbala, 'le plus complet, le plus exact, et le plus sérieux' (Caillet). It was brought together by Knorr von Rosenroth, a Hebraist and ardent student of the kabbala, who saw in it proofs of the doctrine of Christianity. With the rare part 'Liber seu Port Coelorum' but without the 'Adumbratio cabbalae Christianae' appended at the end, which was printed by a different shop.
