An exceptional early 19th Century gilded brass model of a single cylinder five pillar jet condensing rotative beam engine,
the cylinder engraved I Blankly fecit above an engraved masonic badge incorporating the sun and moon eye of God and letter '6' contained within a border, the pedestal mounted cylinder approx. 1½in. bore x 4in. stroke, inward facing centrally mounted valve chest with separte steamways, the valve operated by eccentric rocking lever and underfloor mounted quadrants with 'lift-off' eccentric rod, cylinder head lubricator plug, studded stuffing boxes, inlet manifold with governor butterfly valve, parallel motion with gibbed and cottered bearings drop link bearings with split brasses and pierced distance pieces, barrelled decorated connecting rod with gibbed and cottered big and little end bearings with split brasses, facetted crank, the crankshaft mounted in two bearings supported on 'A' frames, gear and bevel gear driven Watt governor, the driven shaft mounted in two bearings supported on a turned, tapered column, the whole attached to the entablature so that the governor itself is above the entablature and the linkage below (one link missing), and spoked round rimmed flywheel. Further details include barrelled rod driven underfloor air and feed pumps mounted within the condensate tank and hotwell with double tapered drop links and crossheads, the cast iron floor with painted simulated tiles supporting four doric columns in turn supporting the entablature, the fifth mounted on the cylinder block, floor mounted water valve with graduations, and removable filler plate. The whole engine is supported on a plinth built up of cast brass plates with arches and columns and standing on four ball feet, the whole finished in gilt and polished ferrous metal, the floor painted in various colours -- 24¼ x 23¼in. (61.5 x 59cm.)
