Lot Essay

This watch is part of a small series of gold coin watches, given reference numbers in the 800 series, using the US$5 (Ref. 800), US$10 (Ref. 801), US$20 (Ref. 802 & 803), CHF100 (Ref. 804), Pesos 50 (Ref. 805) and others. The earliest coin watches were made in the late 1920s and production of this novelty form of watch continued until the 1980s. The coin was sliced and cut to perfectly to accommodate the gilt dial and movement.

A Patek Philippe coin watch bearing the retailer signature of Tiffany & Co. is exceptionally rare and sought-after.
