The Girl on a Motorcycle/Naked Under Leather, 1968/Marianne Faithfull
A black full leather bodysuit by Lanvin, fleece lined, with knitted yoke, chunky full length zip with large ring pull and additional zip closure at ankles, together with a silver vinyl helmet with knitted ear panels and leather trim, the silk lining labelled Jeanne Lanvin, worn by Marianne Faithfull as Rebecca in the 1968 Warner Bros./British Lion film The Girl on a Motorcycle, also known as Naked Under Leather; accompanied by a silver fibreglass helmet with black leather trim and strap, probably used for stunt shots; and a document concerning the provenance

Lot Essay

Lanvin's full leather bodysuit redefined the leather jacket for motorcyclists into a full body suit for Marianne Faithfull in this sixties cult classic. Faithfull as Rebecca wears the skin-tight suit throughout the film, as we follow her on a motorcycle ride across Germany to see her lover. The American title of the film, Naked Under Leather, suggests that Rebecca wears nothing underneath her leather bodysuit, and indeed we see Faithfull zip the suit over her naked body in the opening scene. Rated X at the time, the film features a number of erotic scenes, one of which sees Rebecca's lover slowly unzip the bodysuit with his teeth. A detail of the provocatively unzipped suit acted as a teaser on both the US and British film posters.
