Lot Essay

According the inscriptions, verso, this could have been drawn near Bentheim, perhaps at Gildehaus, although the additional mention of 'Gerkhausen' (presumably Girkhausen in Westphalia) makes the exact location unclear. Waterloo probably executed this drawing while he was travelling in Northern Germany (see next lot).
