Lot Essay

The inspiration for the form of this chair is from examples made in the Ming dynasty known for its distinctive official hat-shape from which the name is derived. The present chair has an unadorned body and is of moderate size, and gently curved. The back board material was especially picked with a grain pattern in the shape of a pagoda.
