The women in Self's carefully-shaded pencil drawings of the 1960s have a curious hallucinatory presence. The handmade quality of Self's drawings, so different from the technical distance of much Pop Art, led Marco Livingstone to describe them as some of 'the most suprising, imaginative and original works in British Pop'.
