Lot Essay

This monumental work was painted of the actor Hurd Hatfield by the Portuguese artist Henrique Medina in 1945 for the MGM feature The Portrait of Dorian Gray. Star Hatfield was a relative and friend of Robert Hatfield Ellsworth.
