Images du Labyrinthe. L’Atelier surréaliste – Carte blanche à Audrey Guttman

Sale Overview
Christie’s is delighted to present Images du Labyrinthe. L’Atelier surréaliste – Carte blanche à Audrey Guttman, a selling exhibition – curated by the multidisciplinary visual artist and poet Audrey Guttman – to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of the Surrealist Manifesto by André Breton.
Christie’s has given Audrey Guttman a “carte blanche”, to curate an exhibition commemorating the pioneer of the Surrealist movement, André Breton, with notable editions and manuscripts of some of his most important works, such as the first edition of the Surrealist Manifesto. The exhibition highlights the leading figures of Surrealism: Duchamp, Eluard, Ernst, Dali, Péret, Bellmer, Masson, Magritte, Deharme, Man Ray, Hugo and more.
Including loans from prestigious private collections, Guttman recreates an ephemeral installation inspired by André Breton’s workshop, evoking a labyrinth. This exhibition will transport visitors to the Surrealist’s source of inspiration, from Oceanic sculptures to the proto surrealist poetry of the Count of Lautréamont.
In the labyrinth of creation, Audrey Guttman evokes enchantment, and desires the audience to experience this exhibition as a dreamlike journey through words and imagery. The exhibition is her true declaration of love to Surrealism.
The exhibition will be on view at Christie’s Paris from 12 September through 2 October, free and open to all.
