Cass Sculpture Foundation

West Sussex, Opening June 2016

Christie’s is delighted to present a selection of seventeen magnificent large-scale sculptures in partnership with Cass Sculpture Foundation. Cass was founded in 1992 by Wilfred and Jeannette Cass, who are still active founders and trustees. Their mission was to provide support for artists to achieve new levels of ambition. The result is a pioneering not-for-profit organisation of international acclaim, inspiring, enabling and presenting the output of some of the most important figures in contemporary sculpture.

Although Cass operates as a selling platform, all of the proceeds made go directly into supporting artists and new commissions. This unique policy fosters a continually shifting cast of sculptures and a cycle of constant invention, realised on an epic scale; in 1999 the foundation introduced Trafalgar Square’s enormously successful Fourth Plinth project, bringing outdoor sculpture to the public with a succession of exceptional commissioned works – one of which is offered in the present grouping.

This selection is the rich reward of nearly twenty-five years of creative momentum, testament to both the visionary energy of Wilfred and Jeanette and the outstanding quality of British sculpture.
