Monumental Léger

Worldwide, Until June 2018

After a design by Fernand Léger (1881–1955), La Partie de campagne (2éme état), 1984–93, executed by Heidi Melano. Price on request.

Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art Private Sales is honoured to present an extraordinary collection of Fernand Léger works, including vibrant mosaics, tapestries and ceramic sculptures. These monumental pieces represent Léger’s belief that art, when fully integrated into the modern city, could impact and improve the lives of those who encountered it. To achieve his vision, Léger drew on the expertise of the most celebrated artisans working in their respective fields to explore large-scale tapestries and mosaics that could be interwoven into the fabric of their environments, enlivening the facades of buildings and filling entire interiors with their exuberant colours and vital spirit.
