Into the Fold

Paris & London, 8 January – 13 February

English | Français

From the sculpted drapery of Ancient Greek statues to the rich fabrics depicted in Renaissance paintings, the fold has been a driving force and test of artistic ability throughout the centuries and across an array of mediums. Into the Fold, taken from Henri Michaux’s poem of the same name, is a private-selling exhibition exploring its many interpretations in modern and contemporary art over the past 70 years. Bringing together works by Simon Hantaï, Steven Parrino, Sam Gilliam, César, Christo, Piero Manzoni, Olga de Amaral, and Rudolf Stingel, Into the Fold opens up a dialogue on Hantai’s own declaration that ‘the history of painting is no more than a question of the fold.’

Explore the exhibition at Christie’s Paris from 8–21 January, and Christie’s London from 30 January – 13 February. For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
