ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. 30 leaves (i.e. written or decorated on 42 pages), including one blank leaf at beginning, written in a fine upright semi-gothic hand in black and blue. Title in gold, four full-page paintings in floriate borders of Pan, Arethusa, "Song, Rarely Rarely Comest Thou," a seascape with cliffs; oval portrait of Shelley; 5 smaller vignettes in text and borders; page borders and initials in various shades of purple, green, blue, brown and violet, many with stylized floral and foliate designs and lavishly heightened with gold.
A JEWELLED BINDING SET WITH 152 STONES, INCLUDING SEED PEARLS, MOONSTONES AND GARNETS, AND WITH MOTHER-OF-PEARL, by George Sangorski, blue levant morocco, richly gilt covers with elaborate gilt and interlace red inlaid strapwork designs at the corners with a garnet at center of each, the outer panel gilt and lettered with lines from Shelleys lyrics, mother-of-pearl inlaid border on a gilt-dotted ground set with 24 moonstones surrounding a sunken central panel, on the front with carved and inlaid figure of Pan in green red, brown, tan morocco, surrounded by flowers picked out with 94 seed pearls, the back cover an oval panel with a purple inlaid figure of a bird surrounded by flowers decorated with 70 garnets, spine gilt panelled, decorated and lettered; front doublures of tan morocco elaborately inlaid and gilt with floral and strapwork designs, centering a sunken panel Cupid with wings of inlaid mother-of-pearl, sitting before a spider web within floriate design heightened with 30 garnets, the facing endleaf of brown morocco richly gilt and lettered with a 10-line quotation about Shelley from Landor; rear doublures similarly designed with a central sunken panel of floral design centering varicolored inlaid pansies, heightened with 46 purple, clear and amber stones, the facing endleaf of brown morocco richly gilt and inlaid with a 13-line quotation from Landor; blindstamped "GS" [George Sutcliffe] lower right on the front doublure; wooden folding box.
