A LARGE FINELY SGRAFFIATO CIZHOU GLOBULAR JAR
JIN-YUAN DYNASTY, 13TH-14TH CENTURY
The jar is carved with two horizontal registers of stylised leaf scrolls, above a lower register with foliate scrolls in blackish-brown slip against the unglazed buff-coloured body. The inside of the jar, short neck, lipped rim and recessed base are further applied with black slip and covered with a colourless glaze.
