'The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Apollo 11 ‘40th Anniversary’ Platinum Limited Edition commemorates the most dramatic scientific achievement in human history, the first lunar landing'. OMEGA
Omega’s Speedmaster Professional needs almost no introduction, as it is arguably the most well-known and recognizable chronograph wristwatch ever made. The Speedmaster gained international fame as the watch worn by astronauts during NASA’s Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969. This ultra-luxurious, visually striking full-platinum version with a matching platinum bracelet was produced in a limited edition of just 69 pieces in 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of that historic event.
In addition to its solid platinum case and bracelet, which together weigh approximately 248 grams, this special 40th-anniversary edition features several unique design elements that highlight its significance within the Speedmaster Professional collection. Each watch is individually numbered on the dial, with an 18k yellow gold facsimile of the Apollo 11 mission patch placed on the running seconds subdial. Below the white Omega text, printed in red, is '02:56 GMT' - the exact time a human first set foot on the moon. To match the case and bracelet, the Omega logo, hands, and indexes are also crafted from platinum.
The solid case back bears an engraved dedication along the border: 'THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON JULY 21ST 1969'. At its center, an 18k yellow gold facsimile of the Apollo 11 mission patch is displayed in high relief, featuring the inscription 'Apollo 11 / 40th Anniversary'.
