This spring, Collections returns to our salerooms in New York, London and Paris, presenting decorative arts from distinguished private houses and estates.
This season’s London Collections sale is distinguished by important British noble collections presenting a number of significant works of art. The Viscount Wimborne’s property from the famed residences of the family at Canford Manor in Dorset, Wimborne House in London and Ashby St Ledgers Manor in Northamptonshire reflects the breadth and quality of aristocratic collecting from the early 19th century into the first half of the 20th century. The core collections of the sale are completed by a group of silver from the Earl of Suffolk and Berkshire reflecting the best in English silver from the early 18th century onwards.
The sale includes important European, English and 19th-century furniture and objects, Old Master paintings and drawings, porcelain, silver, gold boxes, Fabergé and works of art dating from the 16th to the 20th century, all of which highlight the enduring craftsmanship and beauty of exceptional works of art.
In New York, the spotlight falls on Centuries of Taste: Legacy of a Private Collection, an expansive collection of English furniture meticulously assembled over decades, showcasing the pinnacle of 18th-century design and remarkable provenance. Other highlights include The Orange Blossom Collection of fine silver, a group of elegant English satinwood furniture from a Distinguished East Coast Collection, works from the estates of The Hon. Horst and The Hon. Ruth Denk, and fine 18th and 19th-century French furnishings from private collections.
Paris presents an exceptional array of chinoiseries that embody the elegance and exoticism that captivated 18th-century Europe, belonging to a private European collector. The sale also unveils a set of military decorations from the Murat family, one of the most important families of 19th-century France under the Napoléon are, as well as a set of richly decorated gold boxes illustrating the elegance and refinement of the French Siècle des Lumières.
