A charity auction benefiting the humanitarian crisis in Pakistan
-
Event date 17 November -
Event location New York
Christie’s and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) are pleased to continue their partnership this season. Salman Toor’s 4 Guests, featured in the 21st Century Evening Sale in New York, has been generously donated by the artist with proceeds from the sale to benefit the foundation.
Beginning in June 2022, torrential monsoon rains and glacier-melt caused by a severe heat wave, created catastrophic floods in Pakistan that covered over a third of the country in water. Today, 20-30 percent of Pakistan remains inundated. Despite the enormity of this crisis, there has been lackluster coverage in the media and inadequate support from the international community. CORE is committed to supporting the communities that are in continuous crisis in this active emergency that has affected 33 million people. Millions are homeless, and waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, malaria, typhoid, and cholera are needlessly claiming vulnerable lives.
‘We are humbled to partner with Salman Toor to benefit CORE’s response in Pakistan. Millions are in need, and yet this record-breaking crisis has been neglected, those that are the least responsible for the climate change that has decimated their lives. Through Mr. Toor’s generous donation of his artwork, CORE will be able to continue to save lives in the hardest-hit communities in Pakistan.’

About CORE

CORE, founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, is a crisis response organization dedicated to empowering communities in and beyond crisis. The organization has played a pivotal role on the frontlines of the largest humanitarian crises in recent history, including key responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and the humanitarian crises in Ukraine, Haiti and now, Pakistan.
CORE is delivering urgently needed relief, including distributing mosquito nets, hygiene kits, and a month worth of dry food for tens of thousands of people. As CORE’s efforts continue, it is also providing mobile medical clinics alongside local partners to attend to the numerous health needs of affected communities in the hard-hit Sindh Province.
Throughout the years, CORE has received an overwhelming support from the art world and, through its partnership with Christie's, has been able to raise over 4 million dollars in auctions to support programs in Haiti, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the U.S.
