Discovered in recent years in Northern France, this is an outstanding example of the first production model firearm made by Samuel Colt. It is believed that only about 200 such rifles were produced, and nearly all those known to-day have serial numbers above one hundred. The horse-heads emblem on the cheek-piece is illustrated in R.L. Wilson, Colt Engraving, p. 18
