A PALE BLUE LACED KOSHI TORI DO GUSOKU [ARMOUR]
Edo Period (18th century)
The helmet of close fitting zunari form, black lacquered with embossed eyebrows on the deep peak and fitted with close fitting neck guard, a mask of the briefest form black lacquered with the odayori no kugi [cord securing pegs] in gold, the ni-mai koshitori do [cuirass] of horizontal iron plates covered in lacquered leather with the lower three plates in kebiki style [close lacing], shino gote [sleeves] of russet iron, decorated overall in silver nunome [overlay], karuta gane haidate [thigh guards] red lacquered and a pair of russet iron shino suneate [shin guards], laced in pale blue lacing, the mon [crest] of a rectangle in circle, used by a number of families, appears as a maedate [fore crest], associated, without the circle and repeated in lacquer on the do [cuirass] kusazuri [tassets] and haidate [thigh guards] and in silver on the kote [sleeves], contained in a gusoku bitsu [armour box]
