A splendid copy, reproducing the work of the leading neoclassical sculptor of his day, Thorvaldsen. During the 1830s Thorvaldsen conceived of a museum in his native Denmark to house his models, plasters and collection of paintings by his contemporaries. In 1837, six years after publication of the present work, he gave his collection to Copenhagen, and the museum was opened in 1848. The present copy has an extra bis plate, not called for in the Royal Academy copy. Brunet V, 839. (2)
