On Friday Evening Father Brought Eliza Home
signed with a fly (lower left), signed again, inscribed and dated 'On Friday Evening Father brought Eliza home -/and there she stood waiting to be admired./Father called. ''Come and see what i've got./Now Jane, what do you think of Eliza''./''She beautiful'', said Mother, ''but Frederick,/can you drive her''. ''Of course'', said Father,/''you drive her just like a horse'', and tomorrow/morning we'll all go to Huddersfield''./On the opposite side of the road was Miss Carter/(who wore Pink) pretending not to see us. She is/saying ''Good Evening'' to Miss Maitland & her/mother. I could see Willie Murgatroyd & his/sister Annie & the Baby bringing home the shopping/from the Store. He always carried the flour/tied in a calico square on his head & the/year was 1908./Helen Layfield Bradley. 1967.' (on the artist's label attached to the reverse)
