The noble depicted here could be Raja Suchet Singh (1801-44), brother of Gulab Singh and Dhian Singh. A painting of Suchet Singh with Raja Dhian Singh is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (acc.no. IS.264-1953) as well as an ivory portrait miniature (acc.no. 03605(IS)). A portrait of Rajah Suchet Singh smoking a huqqa was sold at Bonhams, London, 23 October 2018, lot 218. A slightly later Guler painting of comparable scale that depicts Gulab Singh in Kashmir was sold in these Rooms, 27 October 2023, lot 102.
