THE CASE CIRCA 1680; THE MOVEMENT JOSEPH MARTINEAU, LONDON, CIRCA 1760
CASE: rectangular outline, applied overall with diamonds and rubies, the domed basket top with flowerheads and foliage, the bell and strike below, writhen columns to the angles, arched glazed sides and rear, the flared foot raised on claw and ball feet
DIAL: the later 3 ¹/₄ inch silver dial with Roman hours, lozenge half-hour markers and outer minute track, German hour and minute hands, the plate engraved 'Jos. Martineau Senior / London'
MOVEMENT: the twin-train fusee movement with verge escapement, fitted with gut lines, the plates joined by five ringed pillars, the backplate profusely engraved with trailing foliage and further signed 'Jos. Martineau / Senior / London'
